Donor Appreciation

The Africa Bio-fortified Sorghum Project (“ABS Project” or “ project”) is the collaborative effort of an international consortium of nine public and private institutions (“Consortium Members”) aimed at developing and deploying nutritionally enhanced sorghum for Africa on a humanitarian basis.  The project consortium is led by the Africa Harvest Biotech Foundation International (AHBFI).  Other Consortium Members are Pioneer Hi-Bred International (a subsidiary of DuPont), the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research in South Africa (CSIR), the Agricultural Research Council in South Africa (ARC), the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF), the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), the University of Pretoria (UP - South Africa), and the University of California, Berkeley (UC Berkeley - USA).

The project is funded through a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s Grand Challenge in Global Health Initiative (Grand Challenges). Research, product development and other work on the project has been made possible through the generous contributions of various institutions.
